Trezor Safe 5 Manual
What you need
- Trezor Safe 5 + USB connection cable
- Trezor Suite desktop app (you can also use the Trezor Suite for web)
- Wallet Backup card (recovery phrase) and a pen
- About 15 minutes
Process
Trezor Suite will prompt you to connect your device. You will also be given the option to turn anonymous data collection on or off — this is optional, but it helps us fix bugs and improve performance. We recommend allowing it.
Once your device is connected, you will be prompted to perform a quick safety check. Before setting up your Trezor, make sure the packaging is intact and the holographic seal is not damaged.
Important: If there are any signs of tampering, do not use the device! Contact us via our chatbot Hal, and we will provide a replacement device.
When you are sure everything is OK, click Set up my Trezor :
Your Trezor comes without firmware. The first step is to install the latest version by simply clicking the Install firmware button.
After installing the firmware, click Continue :
You will now see the Let's check your device screen. This important step confirms that your Trezor Safe 5 is authentic and safe to use. Click Start to begin:
Your Trezor will display the Authenticate device screen. Swipe up and tap to confirm to continue.
After successful authentication, click Continue .
Create Wallet
If this is your first time setting up your Trezor, select Create new wallet .
You can only use the Recover wallet option if you already have a Wallet Backup (recovery phrase) to restore access to existing accounts.
After selecting Create new wallet , you can choose between Single-share Backup or Multi-share Backup . Here we will show the Single-share Backup method. The Multi-share Backup will be discussed in a separate article.
After selecting Single-share Backup, you will need to confirm this action on your device.
After you have created your wallet, you can proceed to the backup by clicking Continue to backup .
You will be asked to confirm that you understand the backup instructions. Once everything has a green check mark, click Create backup .
Swipe up on your TS5 to confirm that you understand the backup instructions. You will then need to write down all 20 words of your backup accurately and in the correct order.
Your TS5 will display a list of words generated from the SLIP39 word list, and these words will be your backup. It is essential to write down these words in the correct order. Use the provided Wallet Backup cards to do this.
After completing this step, press and hold the confirmation button on the TS5 touchscreen.
Important: This information is the most crucial part of securing your Trezor and crypto. Do not share this information with anyone and store it safely offline.
You then need to verify that your backup is correct by selecting the requested words from your backup as directed by your Trezor.
With the backup complete, you can proceed to setting up a PIN to protect your device from unauthorized physical access. On the Wallet backup complete screen, click Continue to PIN .
Set PIN code
Using a strong PIN protects your Trezor from unauthorized physical access. We recommend using at least 4 digits, but your PIN can be up to 50 digits long.
On the next screen, click Set PIN :
Your Trezor will ask you: Turn on PIN protection? Swipe up on the TS5 touchscreen to confirm.
Enter your new PIN code directly on the Trezor Safe 5.
Tip: Keep a safe offline copy of your PIN, preferably separate from your recovery phrase.
Trezor Suite displays the PIN set confirmation screen.
Click Continue and you will be taken to the Activate Coins window, where you can choose which cryptocurrencies are displayed in Trezor Suite. This setting can be changed at any time, along with other (advanced) settings.
Once you are happy with your selection of active coins, click Complete Setup .
Personalize
For a more personal experience, you can choose a name for your Trezor Safe 5 and even customize the home screen wallpaper. Both actions need to be confirmed on the Trezor Safe 5 device. When you are ready, click Access Suite to get started.
That’s it! You are now in Trezor Suite and your wallet is ready to use.
